THE USE OF KACANG NAGARA (Vigna unguiculata ssp. cylindrica) IN DIET ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MALE ALABIO DUCKS)

Abstract

A research was conducted in order to investigate the effects of the use kacang Nagara (Vigna unguiculata ssp. cylindrica) in feed diet on the performances of male Alabio ducks. Completely randomized design, 4 treatments and 4 replications, 3 ducks in each replication (total 48 male Alabio ducks) was utilized in the experiment. All feed (meet NRC recommendation) and water were provided ad lib during experiment (42 - days). Treatments used in the experiment were Control (The diet based on soybean meals but w ithout kacang Nagara), Arab (The diet with 30% kacang Nagara cultivar Arab), Papan (The diet with 30% kacang Nagara cultivar Papan), Padi (The diet with 30% kacang Nagara cultivar Padi ). Data were gathered as parameters including growth rate, body weight , feed conversion, body weight before slaughtered, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage. Data was analyzed used ANOVA, then DMRT. Results show that using kacang Nagara in the diet did not affect on growth rate, body weight, feed conversion, body weight before slaughtered, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage of male Alabio ducks 42 -d old. However, there is tendency that use of kacang Nagara is better than the control (use of soybean meal). It is concluded that kacang Nagara, especially cultivar Padi, can be recommended for substituting soybean meal
as a protein resource.
