LIME REQUIREMENT AT FINE AND COARSE SOIL TEXTURE AT ACID SOIL IN UPLAND OF SOUTH KALIMANTAN

Abstract


Utilization of acid soils in upland area for agriculture can be done by liming technology. The amount of lime depends on the nature of the soil and the plants to be cultivated. The aim of the research was to determine lime requirement on fine and coarse soil textures using purposive sampling method. Soil samples were taken in farmers’ fields in Landasan Ulin and Gunung Kupang Banjarbaru South Kalimantan. The results showed that liming requirement in coarse soil texture was less than that of fine soil texture. At the farmers’ fields in LandasanUlin, to increase soil pH from acid (4.5-5.5) to slightly acid (5.5-6.5) required 2689.40 kg CaCO3ha-1in coarse soil texture, and 2883.60 kg CaCO3ha-1 in fine soil texture. At Gunung Kupang, to increase soil pH from acid (4.5-5.5) to slightly acid (5.5-6.5) required 3280.40 kg CaCO3 ha-1 for coarse soil texture and 3451.00 kg CaCO3ha-1 for fine soil texture.
