Abstract


The increasing number of humans results in an increase in the burden of pollution from an activity. One of them is the increasing number of humans, the need for food also increases. Tofu and tempeh are foods made from processed soybeans, in the process of raw materials into finished materials, liquid waste is produced, and must go through a wastewater treatment so that the results are in accordance with quality standards. Based on initial observations of the processing of tofu and tempeh industrial wastewater at the Somber Small Industry Center (SIKS) in Balikpapan (November 8, 2023), the value for the BOD parameter was found to be 1457 mg/L (quality standard 150 mg/L), and the value for the COD parameter was 2982 mg/L (quality standard 300 mg/L). In both parameters, both BOD and COD show values above the quality standards based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2014 concerning Wastewater Quality Standards. The purpose of this study was to identify the discharge of tofu and tempeh industrial wastewater processing into water bodies at the Somber Small Industry Center (SIKS) in Balikpapan. The results of the examination of water samples at the outlet with an average value for the BOD parameter of 521.7 mg/L (standard quality 150 mg/L), and for the COD parameter of 1167 mg/L (standard quality 300 mg/L). While the results of the examination of samples in the water body showed an average value for the BOD parameter of 12.6 mg/L (standard quality 12 mg/L), and for the COD parameter of 80.8 mg/L (standard quality 80 mg/L).
