PERBANDINGAN INDEKS KARIES BERDASARKAN PARAMETER KIMIAWI AIR SUNGAI DAN AIR PDAM PADA LAHAN BASAH BANJARMASIN

Abstract


ABSTRACT

      Background: The people in the wetlands area of Kuin Banjarmasin mostly still use river water to brush their teeth. Based on water chemical parameters which are pH, fluorine and calcium, wetlands water is not feasible to be used for toothbrushing, because it can cause dental caries. Purpose: To analyze the comparison of dental caries index on seventh grade students of SMPN 15 Banjarmasin who brushed their teeth using river water and PDAM water in Kuin Banjarmasin based on chemical parameters. Methods: This research use analytic observational method with cross sectional approach. Respondents and samples were taken by simple random sampling technique, the respondents were 136 students divided into 2 groups: 68 students who brushed their teeth using river water and 68 students who brushed their teeth using PDAM water. Sample of river water and PDAM water is taken according to student's address. Results: The Mann-Whitney test in students who brushed their teeth using river water and PDAM water obtained p = 0,000 (p <0.05), the results showed that there was a significant difference in students who brushed their teeth using river water and PDAM water. Conclusion: The caries index of students who brush their teeth using river water is higher than students who brush their teeth using PDAM water.

Latar belakang: Masyarakat yang berada di lahan basah Kecamatan Kuin Banjarmasin sebagian besar masih menggunakan air sungai untuk menyikat gigi. Berdasarkan kandungan parameter kimiawi air yaitu pH, fluor dan kalsium, karakteristik air sungai lahan basah tidak layak digunakan untuk menyikat gigi, karena dapat menyebabkan terjadinya karies. Tujuan: Menganalisis perbandingan indeks karies pada murid kelas 1 SMPN 15 Banjarmasin yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air sungai dan air PDAM pada lahan basah di Kecamatan Kuin Banjarmasin berdasarkan parameter kimiawi. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Responden dan sampel diambil dengan teknik simple random sampling, besar responden sebanyak 136 murid yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu 68 murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air sungai dan 68 murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air PDAM. Sampel air sungai dan air PDAM diambil sesuai alamat murid tinggal. Hasil:  Uji Mann-Whitney  pada murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air sungai dan air PDAM didapatkan nilai p=0,000 (p<0,05), hasil tersebut menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air sungai dan air PDAM. Kesimpulan: Indeks karies murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air sungai lebih tinggi dibandingkan murid yang menyikat gigi menggunakan air PDAM.
