PERBANDINGAN EFEKTIVITAS PENGGUNAAN SIKAT GIGI KONVENSIONAL DAN SIKAT GIGI ELEKTRIK TERHADAP PENURUNAN INDEKS PLAK (Literature Review)

Abstract


ABSTRACT

Background: Plaque hygiene is greatly influenced by the use of a toothbrush. Toothbrushes are available in 2 types, electric toothbrushes and manual toothbrushes. Electric toothbrushes have several features that are not found in manual toothbrushes, such as oscillating and rotating motion, timer, and consistency of pressure when brushing teeth. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the differences in the effectiveness of the use of conventional toothbrushes and electric toothbrushes to decreasing plaque index. Method: This research was conducted using a literature review method with a narrative review procedure. Search using PubMed, Elsevier, Researchgate, and Semantic Scholar. Results: The results of the study from 26 articles showed that the average decrease in the plaque score index in the conventional toothbrush user group from all reviewed journals was 38.17% with the lowest decline range of 5.08% and the highest 77.5%. . The average decrease in the plaque score index in the electric toothbrush user group from all reviewed journals was 58.3% with the lowest decline range of 13.21%% and the highest of 89%. Conclusion: The use of an electric toothbrush is recommended because an electric toothbrush is more effective in reducing plaque index than a manual toothbrush.

ABSTRAK

Latar Belakang: Kebersihan plak sangat dipengaruhi oleh penggunaan sikat gigi. Sikat gigi tersedia dalam 2 jenis, sikat gigi elektrik dan sikat gigi manual. Sikat gigi elektrik memiliki beberapa fitur yang tidak didapatkan pada sikat gigi manual, seperti gerakan berosilasi dan berotasi, timer, dan konsistensi tekanan ketika menyikat gigi. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan efektivitas penggunaan sikat gigi konvensional dan sikat gigi elektrik terhadap penurunan indeks plak. Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metodeliterature review dengan prosedur narrative review. Penelusuran menggunakan PubMed, Elsevier, Researchgate, dan Semantic Scholar. Hasil: Hasil penelitian dari 26 artikel, didapatkan rata-rata penurunan indeks skor plak pada kelompok pengguna sikat gigi konvensional dari keseluruhan jurnal yang di-review adalah 38,17% dengan rentang penurunan paling rendah sebesar 5,08% dan paling tinggi sebesar 77,5%. Rata-rata penurunan indeks skor plak pada kelompok pengguna sikat gigi elektrik dari keseluruhan jurnal yang di-review adalah 58,3% dengan rentang penurunan paling rendah sebesar 13,21% dan paling tinggi sebesar 89%. Kesimpulan: Penggunaan sikat gigi elektrik direkomendasikan karena sikat gigi elektrik lebih efektif dalam menurunkan indeks plak dibandingkan sikat gigi manual.
