Aktivitas Cairan Kulit dan Biji Buah Pepaya (Carica papaya L.) dalam Menurunkan Jumlah Koloni Bakteri Hasil Rekultur Swab Tangan

Abstract


Abstract: Hands are a medium for bacterial growth or transmission of various diseases. The production of papaya fruit (Carica papaya L.) in Indonesia tends to increase every year. it is known that papaya seeds contain antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins. Antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, and steroids are contained in papaya skin. This study analyzed the activity of the liquid of papaya skin and seed in reducing the quantity of staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli. The study design used true experimental, pre and posttest with control group design, consist of 6 treatments of water papaya seed liquid and papaya skin liquid (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, and 150%) and alcohol 70% (positive control). The conclusion is water papaya skin and papaya seed liquid show an effect in reducing the quanitity of colonies of staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli; effectiveness of S.aureus is greater than E.coli.

Abstrak: Tangan merupakan salah satu media pertumbuhan bakteri atau penularan penyebab berbagai penyakit. Di Indonesia Produksi buah pepaya (Carica papaya L.) cenderung meningkat setiap tahun. Biji pepaya diketahui mengandung senyawa-senyawa antibakteri seperti flavonoid, alkaloid dan saponin. Kulit pepaya diketahui mengandung berbagai senyawa antibakteri juga seperti flavonoid, saponin dan steroid. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis aktivitas cairan kulit dan biji pepaya (Carica papaya L.) dalam menurunkan jumlah koloni bakteri pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia. coli hasil rekultur swab tangan. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan true experimental, pre and posttest with control group design, terdiri dari 6 perlakuan cairan kulit dan biji pepaya (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% dan 150%) dan alkohol 70% (kontrol positif). Simpulan penelitian ini yaitu terdapat perbedaan penurunan jumlah koloni bakteri dari cairan kulit dan biji pepaya terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus dibandingkan dengan Escherichia coli.
