GLOBALISASI DAN TRANSFORMASI IDENTITAS SUKU POLAHI DI GORONTALO: ANTARA KETAHANAN DAN ADAPTASI

Abstract

Globalization has had a significant impact on the cultural identity of the Polahi tribe in the mountainous region of Gorontalo, a community rich in traditions and local values. This research explores how the Polahi tribe adapts to the challenges posed by globalization while maintaining essential elements of their identity. Using a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that the Polahi tribe demonstrates strong resilience in facing change by integrating new elements from global culture into their practices and traditions. This process creates a dynamic form of identity, where traditional and modern elements interact with one another. Furthermore, the research reveals the Polahi's ability to preserve and nurture their cultural heritage in response to cultural homogenization, which often threatens the existence of local identities. Thus, the Polahi tribe not only survives but also innovates, creating space for relevant cultural expression in the global era. This study provides insights into how local communities can adapt and maintain their identities amidst the increasingly powerful currents of globalization.
