UJI PEFORMA PELLET DARI TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT (TKKS) SEBAGAI BAHAN BAKAR ALTERNATIF BIOMASSA

Abstract


Tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) dihasilkan secara melimpah oleh industri kelapa sawit dan masih belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal, meskipun memiliki potensi sebagai bahan bakar padat terbarukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja pembakaran pellet TKKS yang diproduksi menggunakan konsentrasi perekat tapioka yang berbeda. Serbuk TKKS dipelletisasi menggunakan perekat tapioka sebanyak 50%, 75%, dan 100%. Kinerja pembakaran dinilai melalui suhu penyalaan, durasi nyala, suhu pembakaran, dan residu abu. Pellet yang mengandung 100% perekat menunjukkan suhu pembakaran tertinggi (611°C), propagasi pembakaran tercepat, dan emisi asap terendah. Sementara itu, pellet dengan konsentrasi perekat lebih rendah menunjukkan kestabilan penyalaan yang lebih rendah. Penambahan 100% perekat tapioka secara signifikan meningkatkan kinerja pembakaran dan menunjukkan potensi pellet TKKS sebagai bahan bakar biomassa alternatif.

 

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) are abundantly generated by the palm oil industry and remain underutilized despite their potential as renewable solid fuel. This study aimed to evaluate the combustion performance of EFB pellets produced using different tapioca binder concentrations. EFB powder was pelletized using 50%, 75%, and 100% tapioca binder. Combustion performance was assessed through ignition temperature, flame duration, combustion temperature, and ash residue. The pellet containing 12.5% binder exhibited the highest combustion temperature (611°C), fastest combustion propagation, and lowest smoke emission. Meanwhile, pellets with lower binder concentrations showed lower ignition stability. The addition of 12.5% tapioca binder significantly improved combustion performance and demonstrated the potential of EFB pellets as alternative biomass fuel.
