IDENTIFICATION OF HIGH YIELDING BLOCK OF COCONUT IN DISTRICT OF HULU SUNGAI SELATAN SOUTH KALIMANTAN

Abstract


This study aims for identifying the coconut plantations of the farmer who qualify as High Yielding Block (HYB), which can be used as a source region of coconut seed quality in the South Kalimantan.The study was conducted in December 2010 in district of Hulu Sungai Selatan, subdistrict Kandangan, Kelumpang, Simpur and Sungai Raya as the central location coconut development in distric of Hulu Sugai Selatan, South Kalimantan. Coconut plants were observed is a type of tall coconut at least 15 years old. The methods used include: Determination of Location, Block Selection, Selection of sample trees, coconuts sampling and data analysis. Results of research on the nature of the coconut fruit component consisting of: fruit weight, fruit weight without husk, seed weight without water, fruit flesh weight, shell weight, and fruit flesh thickness contained in the location of the High Yielding Block (HYB) Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Selatan, showed that coconut In a selected block has a medium diversity and meet the requirements to become one of the High Yielding Block (HYB) with a coefficient of variance (CV) coconut fruit component <20%.
