Abstract

ABSTRACT

Hypertension is one of risk factor of cardiovascular and kidney disease. South Borneo was occupied the second place (30.8%) of hypertension prevalence in Indonesia. Non andherence is factor that can inhibit the blood pressure control so that it needs the intervention to improve the adherence of hypertension patients to the therapy. The aim of this study were to investigate the comparison of influence of giving short message reminder and using digital pillbox reminder on adherence and the outcome therapy hypertension patients at RSUD Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Banjarmasin. This study was conducted with quasi-experimental design and the data was collected prospectively during period April until May 2015. Forty patients were divided into 2 groups, 25 patients (62.5%) were received short message reminder and 15 patients (37.5%) were received digital pillbox reminder intervention. The exclussion criteria were patient with deaf and illiterate conditions. Data collection was conducted with interview and completion of Morisky Modification Adherence Scale (MMAS) questionnaire. The resut of this study showed that giving short message reminder and digital pillbox reminder could improve pre study adherence 4.79±2.04 and 5.02±2.30 increased 6.09±1.42 and 7.23±0.99 at post study with the value p 0.00. The average of increasing adherence on short message reminder group 1.30±1.30 and digital pillbox reminder group 2.22±1.60 were not significantly different (p=0.055). Based on this study, it can be concluded that giving short message reminder and digital pillbox reminder can improve the adherence but not significantly different between this two groups (p>005).
