Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

  1. General Provisions

    1. Originality
      Submitted manuscripts must be original and have not been previously published elsewhere.

    2. Submission
      All manuscripts must be submitted to the Marine, Coastal & Small Islands Journal (MCSIJ) editorial office via Online Submission through the journal portal:
      https://ppjp.ulm.ac.id/journals/index.php/mcs
      (Click Register if you do not have an account, or Login if you already have one).

    3. File Format and Length
      Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc) format, using Times New Roman, 11 pt font, single spacing, and A4 paper size.
      Page margins: top (3 cm), left (4 cm), right (3 cm), bottom (3 cm).
      The maximum length is 20 pages. Use the official MCSIJ manuscript template.

    4. Language
      Manuscripts must be written in English.

    Manuscript Structure

    The structure of the manuscript should follow this format:

    • Title

    • Author(s) and Affiliation(s)

    • Abstract (in Indonesian and English)

    • Introduction

    • Methods

    • Results and Discussion

    • Conclusion

    • References

    Title

    • Must be clear and informative.

    • Written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, centered, and single-spaced.

    • Capitalize each word except for conjunctions.

    • Maximum 18 words.

    Author's Name and Affiliation

    • Author names must be written without academic titles.

    • List the affiliation below each author's name.

    • Include email addresses to facilitate correspondence (especially for the corresponding author).

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, single spacing, and center alignment.

    Abstract

    • The abstract must be written in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.

    • Maximum 275 words, written in one paragraph.

    • Include the purpose, methods, results, and conclusion of the study.

    • Do not include references, figures, or tables.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    Keywords

    • Provide 3 to 5 keywords or phrases that represent the core content of the article.

    • Place them below the abstract.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    Introduction

    • The introduction should include the research background, previous research, theoretical framework, and references.

    • Provide a gap analysis and explain the novelty or uniqueness of the research.

    • Clearly state the research objectives or questions.

    • No subheadings are required.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    Methods

    • This section should describe how the study was conducted, including:

      • Type of research

      • Subjects/population and sample

      • Data collection instruments

      • Tools and materials (include specifications)

      • Data analysis techniques

    • Tool specifications should explain the sophistication of equipment, and material specifications should describe the type used.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    Results and Discussion

    • This is the core part of the article and typically the longest.

    • Explain how the research objectives were achieved.

    • Discuss findings with interpretation and relate them to existing theories or literature.

    • Construct new theories or refine existing ones where applicable.

    • Present only clean results; do not include raw data or step-by-step analysis.

    • Use tables and figures to support the text, and ensure all are commented on or interpreted within the discussion.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    Conclusion

    • Summarize the results and discussion, directly referring to the research objectives.

    • Conclusions must be presented clearly and logically.

    • Use Times New Roman, 11 pt, and single spacing.

    References

    • Only include references cited in the manuscript.

    • Follow APA Style (7th edition) strictly.

    • Use at least 80% primary sources (national/international journals) from the last 10 years.

    • Sort references alphabetically and chronologically.

    Examples:

    • Journal Article:

    • Book:

    Use reference management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, or Zotero to help with citation formatting and consistency.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

This journal charges the following author fees.

Article Submission: 0.00 (IDR)
Authors are required to pay an Article Submission Fee as part of the submission process to contribute to review costs.

Article Publication: 0.00 (IDR)
If this paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Publication Fee to cover publications costs.

If you do not have funds to pay such fees, you will have an opportunity to waive each fee. We do not want fees to prevent the publication of worthy work.
