Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of socio-cultural resilience of first-year students of the Department of Law and Citizenship (HKn) FIS State University of Malang by adapting the Sociocultural Adaptation Scale (SCAS) instrument into the Indonesian version using the TRAPD (Translation, Review, Adjudication, Pretesting, and Documentation) framework. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The population in this study were 401 students of the Department of Law and Citizenship (HKn) FIS State University of Malang class of 2025 with a sample of 197 people selected using the Krejcie-Morgan Table. Data collection through the distribution of the Indonesian version of the SCAS instrument, with 21 questionnaire items showed that the instrument was declared valid, with the highest r count of 0.694 on the 17th item, and the lowest 0.323 on the 11th item. The results of the instrument reliability test were 0.916 and the results of the students' socio-cultural adaptation showed a mean of 44.79 and a standard deviation of 15.76. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and categorization of socio-cultural resilience levels (high, medium, low). The results showed that the level of socio-cultural resilience of first-year students of the Department of Law and Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, State University of Malang was categorized as low in adapting to the new academic environment. This study contributes to the mapping of adaptation and socio-cultural resilience of first-year students of the Department of Law and Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, State University of Malang.
