Author Guidelines
MALAJOE: Marginal Land Journal publishes scientific papers in the field focus of soil characteristics, management of swamp and peat lands, soil and water conservation, soil fertility, and sustainable agriculture in suboptimal land areas. Manuscripts submitted must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal.
All submitted manuscripts undergo evaluation by independent reviewers or members of the editorial board. The journal applies a double-blind peer review system, ensuring that the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.
A. Article Structure
1. Cover Page
The cover page should include the submission date, author names and affiliations, institutional addresses, email address, article title, total number of pages, number of tables, and number of figures. The manuscript length must not exceed 15 pages.
2. Title Page
The title should be concise and informative, with a maximum of 18 words. It is followed by the full names of the authors (middle names abbreviated if more than two words, e.g., Andy M. Murray), institutional affiliations, addresses, and the corresponding author’s email (marked with an asterisk *).
3. Abstract
The abstract summarizes the entire study, including background, objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions. It should be written in English and may include one or two sentences highlighting implications. The abstract must not exceed 250 words and should conclude with minimum of three and maximum of five keywords or phrases arranged alphabetically. The keyword should not mention in the manuscript tittle.
4. Introduction
This section provides the research background, supported by references to previous studies, and clearly explains the research gap. The research objectives should be stated explicitly at the end of this section.
Tip: Include at least five relevant references.
5. Materials and Methods
This section describes the research procedures in sufficient detail to allow replication. It should specify whether the study is laboratory-based, field-based, a combination of both, or exploratory.
6. Results and Discussion
Research findings should be presented clearly and concisely, supported by tables, figures, or both. The discussion should compare current results with previous studies, highlight similarities or differences, and emphasize the novelty of the findings. Additional explanations or interpretations are encouraged where relevant.
7. Conclusions
This section provides a concise, standalone summary of the main findings and their implications.
8. Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments should recognize individuals or institutions that contributed to the research, including funding sources, technical assistance, or manuscript editing support.
9. References
All cited works must be listed in the reference section in alphabetical order. The citation style follows the author-year format, for example: (Pratama, 2017) or Pratama (2017). The references should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition
- For two authors: Allen and Jones (2014)
- For more than two authors: use et al.
- Multiple citations should be ordered chronologically: (Newton et al., 2007; Allen and Jones, 2014; Pratama, 2017)

B. Manuscript Formatting
- Manuscripts must be prepared on A4 paper with 3 cm margins on all sides.
- Use standard fonts such as Times New Roman or Arial.
- Tables must be created using the table function (not spreadsheets) and should include horizontal lines only.
- Figures should follow the journal’s formatting guidelines.

Figure 1. Relationship between NH₃ emissions and temperature
(The figure should be high definition resolution and not blurry. If you present histogram data, then it should be editable figure.)
