PERKEMBANGAN SENI KUDA GIPANG DARI ORDE BARU KE ERA REFORMASI DI DESA BARIKIN KECAMATAN HARUYAN KABUPATEN HULU SUNGAI TENGAH PROVINSI KALIMANTAN SELATAN 1972-2022
Abstract
This study explores the development of Kuda Gipang Dance in Barikin Village, Haruyan District, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, South Kalimantan, from 1972 to 2022. The dance originates from the socio-cultural life of an agrarian rural community and functions as a medium for expressing gratitude, togetherness, acculturation, and a collective work spirit through simple, spontaneous, and tradition-based performances. The research applies a historical method, including data collection from primary and secondary sources, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, supported by a descriptive approach through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that Kuda Gipang Dance has undergone significant development over time. Initially, between 1972 and 1980, it was simple and improvisational, serving mainly as entertainment and a means of social cohesion. Between 1980 and 1998, the dance experienced improvements in movement structure, musical accompaniment, and aesthetic value. From 1998 to 2022, it evolved into a well-established cultural identity, characterized by the involvement of younger generations, participation in formal performances and cultural festivals, and innovations in choreography, costumes, and properties while maintaining its traditional values. In conclusion, Kuda Gipang Dance has developed dynamically from a simple folk art into an adaptive local cultural symbol, playing an important role in preserving cultural identity and encouraging active community participation in sustaining local traditions.
