Peer Review Process

The study or author is anonymous.

• The author's anonymity prevents the study's bias, e.g., based on the author's home country or previous controversial work.
• Articles written by prestigious or reputed authors are considered based on the contents of their papers, not of their reputations.
• Reviewers can often identify writers through their writing style, subject matter, or self-citation.

For journals that use single blind peer review, the identity of the reviewers is concealed from the authors.  To facilitate this, arrangements are made so that reviewers do not reveal their identity to authors and vice versa, either directly or indirectly.

 Therefore make sure that the following items are in your post and are provided as separate files:

 1. Title page

The title page will remain separate from the script during the peer review process and will not be sent to the reviewers. This should include:

• Manuscript title
• All author and affiliated names
• The full address of the author, including the e-mail address
• Acknowledgments
• Statement of conflicts of interest

2. anonymized Manuscripts

Please remove the identifiable information, such as the author or affiliate name of your script before submission.

In addition to deleting names and affiliates under the heading in the script, other steps need to be taken to ensure the script is properly prepared for the single-blind peer review. The key points to consider are:

• Make sure the numbers and tables do not contain references to affiliate authors.
• Excluding thanks and reference to the source of funding. Use the title page, which is not sent to the reviewer, to specify this and to state the potential conflicts of interest to the Editor.

Publication Frequency

Starting in 2026, Jurnal Berkala kesehatan will publish its articles in three issues per volume: Issue No. 1 (April–July), Issue No. 2 (August–November), and Issue No. 3 (December–March)

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

PUBLICATION ETHIC

Publication Ethic

Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan (JBKes) using guidelines issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (Commission of Publication Ethics / COPE). JBK requires that all articles involving human subjects to respect the principles of research ethics as stated in the Declaration of Helsinki. As for research involving animals as subjects are also required to comply with the International Principles for Biomedical Research issued by the International Council of Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). Ethical publication should be clear in order to improve the quality of research. JBK COPE adjust to meet the ethical standards both for publishers, editors, authors, and reviewers.

Here are the ethical standards for editors, authors, and reviewers.

Editors

1. Editors should be responsible for every article published in JBK.
2. Editors should help authors to follow the Guidelines for author.
3. Editors may communicate with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.
4. An editor has to evaluate the manuscript objectively for publication, judging each on its quality without looking to nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors. Editors should decline the assignment when there is a potential for conflict of interest.
5. Editors need to ensure the document sent to the reviewers does not contain the information of the author, vice versa.
6. Editors’ decision should be informed to authors accompanied by reviewers’ comments unless they contain offensive or libellous remarks.
7. Editors should respect requests from authors that an individual should not review the submission if these are well reasoned and practicable.
8. Editors and all staffs should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
9. Editors will be guided by the COPE flowcharts if there is a suspected misconduct or disputed authorship.

Reviewers

1. Reviewers commented on the possibility of errors in ethical research and publications.
2. Reviewers should do the job on time and notify the Editor if they can not finish the job.
3. Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript.
4. Reviewers should not be receiving and reviewing the manuscript if there is a potential conflict of interest between them and the authors.

Authors

1. The author ensures that the material to be published have not been published and sent to another place simultanously
2. Authors must ensure the authenticity of their research and they have cited the others opinion correctly in accordance with the reference format.
3. The author is not involved in plagiarism.
4. Authors must follow the criteria described in the guideline writing to the author of JBK.
5. Authors are not advised to publish any personal information that may make the patient recognizable identity in the form of the description section, photograph or genealogy. When photographs of patients is very important and indispensable as scientific information, the authors have received approval in written form and has clearly stated it.
6. In the case of experiments on humans, the authors state that the study was in accordance with the ethical standards of the Helsinki declaration, which leads the human experiment. If there are doubts raised whether the study took place in accordance with the declaration, the author should explain it. In the case of experiments on animals, the author has certified that the author has followed the guidelines and abroad with regard to animal experiments in the laboratory.
7. Authors must submit the data and details to the editor, if suspected falsification or fabrication of data.
8. The authors should explain everything that can give rise to a conflict of interest such as employment, research costs, consulting fees, and intellectual property on guidelines for JBK writers

Confidentiality

Editors of the JBK Editors treat the submitted manuscript and all communication with authors and referees as confidential. Authors must also treat communication with the journal as confidential. Correspondence with the journal, reviewers' reports and other confidential material must not be posted on any website or otherwise publicized without prior permission from the editors, whether or not the submission is eventually published.

Copyrights of all materials published in JBK are held exclusively by the Journal and the respective author/s. Any reproduction of material from the Journal without proper acknowledgement or prior permission will result in the infringement of intellectual property laws. Written acceptance of the journal publishing agreement  is required before the article can be published.

Ethic Withdrawal

Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of scientific publications. This policy governs article corrections, article retractions, manuscript withdrawals, expressions of concern, and sanctions imposed on authors who commit violations of publication ethics.

This policy refers to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), applicable national regulations on scientific publications, and guidelines for scientific journal accreditation/SINTA.

A. Correction Policy

A correction may be issued when a published article contains errors that do not affect the overall validity of the research, such as:

1. errors in the author’s name or affiliation;
2. typographical errors;
3. errors in tables, figures, numerical data, or captions; and
4. other editorial errors that do not alter the main conclusions of the article.

The journal may issue a Correction Notice, Erratum, or Corrigendum, which will be linked to the original article.

If the error affects the reliability of the data or the main conclusions, the article will be evaluated for an Expression of Concern or Retraction.

B. Retraction Policy

An article may be retracted if serious violations are identified, including:

1. substantial plagiarism;
2. duplicate or redundant publication;
3. fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data;
4. manipulation of images, tables, statistics, or analytical results;
5. violations of research ethics;
6. serious errors that render the results or conclusions unreliable;
7. authorship misconduct; or
8. manipulation of the peer-review or editorial process.

The results of a similarity check shall not be used as the sole basis for retracting an article and must be evaluated substantively.

Retraction Procedure

1. The Editor conducts an initial assessment and investigation.
2. The author is given an opportunity to provide clarification.
3. If the violation is substantiated, the Editorial Board determines the appropriate action.
4. The journal publishes a Retraction Notice explaining the reason for the retraction.
5. The article remains available as part of the scholarly record but is clearly marked or watermarked as “Retracted.”

C. Withdrawal Policy

Withdrawal refers to the removal of a manuscript before publication. Authors may request withdrawal if there is:

1. a substantial error in the manuscript;
2. an authorship-related issue;
3. an ethical concern; or
4. an academic or legal reason that can be reasonably justified.

The request must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to the Editor-in-Chief. Withdrawal is not permitted when it is intended to:

• transfer the manuscript to another journal while the editorial process at Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan is still ongoing;
• withdraw an accepted manuscript without a valid reason; or
• avoid an investigation into an alleged ethical violation.

Unauthorized withdrawal may result in editorial sanctions.

D. Expression of Concern

Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan may issue an Expression of Concern when there are serious indications that an article may contain problems, but the investigation has not yet been completed or the available evidence is insufficient to justify a Correction or Retraction. The status of the article will be updated once the investigation has been completed.

E. Author Sanction and Publication Ban

Authors who are proven to have violated publication ethics may be subject to a publication ban for 2–5 years and/or an administrative fee equivalent to the applicable Article Processing Charge (APC) at Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan, depending on the type and severity of the violation.

The duration of sanctions shall be determined by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board based on the seriousness and impact of the violation, the element of intent, and the author’s history of previous violations.

Publication Ban Provisions.

During the sanction period:

1. the sanctioned author may not submit manuscripts to Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan;
2. any new manuscript that includes the name of an author who is currently subject to a publication ban will not be processed, regardless of whether the individual is listed as the first author, corresponding author, co-author, or in any other authorship position;
3. the manuscript may be administratively rejected without undergoing peer review;
4. if the sanction status is discovered after the editorial process has begun, the journal may discontinue the publication process; and
5. attempts to circumvent the sanction by changing the author’s name, authorship order, identity, or other means may result in an extension or escalation of the sanction.

Administrative Fee Provisions

An administrative fee may be imposed if an author withdraws a manuscript without authorization after the manuscript has been accepted or after the production process has begun, without a justifiable academic, ethical, or legal reason.

The administrative fee shall be equivalent to the applicable APC at the time the manuscript is processed, in accordance with the official APC rate of Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan.

Articles that have already been published will not automatically be retracted solely because one of the authors is subsequently sanctioned. Such articles will only be reviewed if there are indications of misconduct related to the publication concerned.

F. Principles for Handling Cases

All editorial actions shall be carried out based on the principles of integrity; fairness; transparency; confidentiality; accountability; proportionality; and independence.

Authors shall be given an opportunity to provide clarification before sanctions are imposed. Decisions shall be made by the Editor-in-Chief together with the Editorial Board and shall be documented internally.

Jurnal Berkala Kesehatan reserves the right to review and update this policy in accordance with developments in publication ethics standards, national regulations, and the journal’s management needs.
