Abstract

Abstract

This study explored place attachment among older adult survivors of the Galodo natural disaster in Nagari Pandai Sikek. The study focused on how participants interpreted their relationship with their place of residence after the disaster. A qualitative phenomenological design was used to examine these experiences in depth. Three older adult survivors were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The analysis identified four main themes of place attachment: associating the home with personal identity, protecting the home, experiencing comfort within the home, and maintaining bonds with the social environment. These findings show that place attachment among older adult disaster survivors reflects a deep connection with the physical, social, and communal dimensions of home. For these survivors, the home represents not only a place of residence but also a central part of personal identity and continuity after disaster.
